The 2nd generation of DISI disintegration testers was introduced in 2025 with a renewed appearance and new control options. What has not changed is that they have remained the universal, all-knowing instruments for those conducting disintegration tests, which are capable of recording the complete disintegration profile of the tablets to be tested. The DISI-EVO instrument, with its magnetic basket suspensions and magnetic signal guidance ensures the simplicity of the tests and the speed of removing and placing the basket during the subsequent cleaning processes without electrical wires and potential corrosion points. The magnetic suspension also ensures the automatic centering of the baskets. Changes in the disintegration process are detected with a wire ring built into the discs above the tablets, based on the magnetic induction principle. The technology provides the complete tracking of the disintegration process and the record of both the disintegration profile and the end point. Since no electrical contact is required to reach the end point, by specifying the residual height, it is possible to test dosage forms such as capsules or multi-stage disintegration tablets, for which instruments with electrical endpoint indication provide false results due to non-disintegrating debris.
Instead of the previous medium heating with a bath, bathless induction heating allows to reach the right temperature quickly and to keep it stable. The induction heating is supported by an infrared temperature sensor. The temperature of the medium can be continuously monitored and documented with the second temperature sensor built into the basket holder. The proper preparation of the medium is also ensured by the liquid level sensor, which switches off the heating if less than 750 ml of liquid is detected.
The DISI-EVO can still be controlled via the Ph21 software, which fully complies with the requirements of 21 CFR Part 11, and also provides detailed and extensive password protection, statistical calculation and display of disintegration curves. A novelty is the 7’’ touch screen control mode, which also provides compliance with the 21 CFR Part 11 requirements. Due to the network and USB ports, the results can be printed and saved onto an external drive.
