Electrochemical detectors

The amperometric electrochemical detectors, produced by the Dutch Antec Scientific, are suitable for the chromatographic determination of easily reducible or oxidizable materials. The Decade Elite and Decade Lite are capable of detecting selectively and with high-sensitivity the neurotransmitters, catecholamines, carbohydrates, amino acids, cyanides etc. from the complex biological samples. Both detectors consist of two parts: the high-stability potentiostat and the flow cell. The cell contains the working and auxiliary electrodes and the reference electrode, which is in contact with the eluent flow. The reference electrode is necessary for adjusting the appropriate potential.
Both instruments have large thermostats, which provide at the same time the thermal stability of the chromatographic column and the measuring cell, as well as the Faraday cage electrical shielding of the system components in order to minimize the thermal and electrical noises. Due to their analog signal output, they can be connected to any HPLC/UHPLC system capable of receiving analog signal.

DECADE Elite

The DECADE Elite of high-sensitivity can operate in direct amperometric (DC), pulse and scan modes. In pulse mode, the surface of the electrode can be cleaned continuously with the periodic change of the cell voltage. In scan mode, the dynamic voltamogram can be recorded, with which the detection potential can be optimized. The instrument can be controlled with the Antec Dialogue software or, due to its internal controller, with buttons. On its 4-line LCD display the operating/functioning parameters can be read.

Electrochemical cells

Many types of electrochemical cells can be adapted to the DECADE Elite and DECADE Lite detectors, depending on the task to be fulfilled.

VT-03 and μ-VT-03

The VT electrochemical cell operating on wall-jet principle, is of high-sensitivity, has an excellent signal/noise ratio and quick stabilization time. The eluent is injected directly onto the surface of the working electrode. The material of the working electrode can be selected based on the quality of the component to be measured, the detection potential, the quality of the contaminating components and the pH value of the eluent from the following options: glassy carbon, gold, silver, platinum and copper. The most common glassy carbon potential range spreads from -1,5 V to +0,6 V in alkaline medium and from -0,8 V to 1,3 V in acid medium. The volume of the cell is determined by the diameter of the spacers and the working electrodes.

Sencell

Sencell is a wall-jet type electrochemical cell. Due to “Adjustable Spacer Technology” (AST) the cell volume of the electrochemical cell can be simply adjusted by turning the cell with the supplied adjustment key. The cell is of high-sensitivity, has an excellent signal/noise ratio, quick stabilization time and 5 bar pressure tolerance. Sencell is ideally suited for use in UHPLC with electrochemical detection.

Flexcell

During pulse-mode measurements, when using mainly metal working electrodes, it occurs that the replacement of the working electrodes becomes necessary. In these cases the Flexcell electrochemical cell is of great help because it contains easily removable working electrodes. Thus, it can be easily adapted to performing various electrochemical analyses, e.g biogenic amines (glassy carbon), carbohydrates (gold), peroxides (platinum), halides (silver), sulphides (Magic Diamond TM) etc.
