NRS-5000/7000 dispersive Raman spectrometers

The NRS-5000/7000 dispersive Raman spectrometers produced by the Japanese JASCO company stand out with their resolution, speed and specially with their upgradability. The NRS-5000 and NRS-7000 instruments are valuable tools for high sensitivity measurements carried out in the research laboratories dealing with medicine, organic chemistry, geology and life sciences research and others, e.g. manufacturing nanotubes. In most cases no sample preparations are necessary for the measurements. Thus, even archeological samples, semiconductors, forensic evidence samples can be examined without causing any damage to the samples. The results give ’fingerprint’ information on the chemical composition and structure of the sample and can be used for qualitative and quantitative determinations, as well. The Spectra Manager II software package provides control, collection and analysis of the measurement data of the JASCO Raman spectrometers.
NRS-5000

The NRS-5000 Raman spectrometer can be used in the 50-8000 cm-1 wavenumber range, which can be expanded up to 10-8000 cm-1 while it has 1cm-1 resolution and 300 mm focal length. 6 objectives can be used, the 5x, 20x and 100x magnification objectives belong to the basic unit. The instrument is capable of integrating 2 lasers and 4 monochromator gratings. For the automatic wavenumber calibration a Ne lamp is used. The sample can be placed on the manual or automatic stage, the simultaneous monitoring and measuring of the sample is provided by the built-in CMOS camera, which is used for the precise setting of the point to be measured. In addition to the lasers placed in the house of the NRS-5000, the instrument can be extended with 3 VIS-NIR and 3 UV lasers in the external house, thus, 8 lasers may be available in the maximum configuration. The VertiScan function allows the undistorted, 3-dimensional analysis of the multi-layered samples. With use of the SPRintS technique the data collection time of a measurement point can be reduced to 5 msec.

NRS-7000

The NRS-7000 Raman spectrometer can be used in the
50-8000 cm-1 wavenumber range, which can be extended to
5-8000 cm
-1 while it has a 0.7 cm-1 (optionally 0.3 cm-1) resolution and a 500 mm focal length. 6 objectives can be used with this instrument, the 5x, 20x and 100x magnification objectives are also included in the standard unit. The instrument is capable of including 2 lasers and 4 monochromator gratings. It uses a Ne lamp for automatic calibrations. The sample can be placed on a manual or automatic stage, the simultaneous monitoring and measuring of the sample is provided by the built-in CMOS camera, which is used for the precise setting of the point to be measured. In addition to the lasers placed in the house of the NRS-7000, the instrument can be extended with 3 VIS-NIR and 3 UV lasers in external house, thus, 8 lasers may be available in the maximum configuration. Optional automatic notch filter changer can also be used. The VertiScan function allows the undistorted 3-dimensional analysis of the multi-layered samples. With the use of the SPRintS technique the data collection time of a measurement point can be reduced to 5 msec.

Spectra Manager II

The control and data processing of the Raman spectrometers is provided by the Spectra Manager II multifunctional software used for the controlling all the JASCO spectroscopic instruments. The software allows the observation of the image of the illuminated sample and the location of the laser. With an automatic stage the stage movement can be associated with the ’mapping’ function. It has automatic fluorescence correction and detects the wave number filters. Taking advantage of the depth focusing possibility of the confocal microscopes, 3-D shootings can be made from the Raman intensity data, thus the analysis of the multi-layered samples is possible. Among the functions it can be found the measurement and storage of parameter settings, real-time spectrum display, scale change, zoom functions, smoothing, baseline correction, peak search, peak area calculation, arithmetic operations, derivations, %T/Abs conversion, automatic spectrum subtraction, ASCII conversion, print format editing. Each Raman spectrometer has the Know-it-All program package including a spectral library of 1300 spectra. The software is capable of loading the most important spectrum formats, it has different spectrum management and search features, own spectral libraries can be prepared with it and it is suitable for functional group analysis, chemical structure editing and reporting, as well.
